Last year the Gloucester ‘Pix from the Stix’ competition showed some great local talent and organisers hope to continue that success for 2014.
The ‘Pix from the Stix’ photography competition is open to all with both junior and senior categories.
If you have a passion for photography or would like to see what you can create, collect an entry form from the Visitor Information Centre, Gloucester Gallery or ‘Pix from the Stix’ Facebook page.
Entries close on June 6 and framed works need to be completely ready for hanging and delivered to the gallery between 10am and 4pm on June 17. The categories are the same as last year, each with its own prize along with a major overall prize.
Locals:
This portraiture category allows photographers to capture the essence of some of the interesting and diverse characters from around the Gloucester district.
Lie of the Land:
An open category that allows photographers to explore the differing landscape features, both natural and built, in the district.
Natural Environment:
For a more in-depth photography experience of nature, capture the flora and fauna of the district in a truly individual and explicit manner.
Man Made:
Focus on obscure or everyday objects and use photographic skills to capture the essence of the myriad of man-made objects that make up the lives of people living in Gloucester.
Not Your Normal Photo:
A time to really test artistic flare. Experiment with a more abstract or conceptual approach to photography, pushing the limits of what is achievable through digital technology.
Cultural Events:
Gloucester District has many wonderful and unique cultural happenings and this is the opportunity to immortalise those special moments with clever and artistic photography.
Absence of Colour:
Black and white photography (or even partial colour absence) has a unique way of highlighting and capturing the essence of a subject. Use your imagination to create stunning photographs highlighted by a distinct lack of colour.
Junior section:
This category is open to all people under 18 years of age. There is no specific category genre so feel free to experiment in any of the above listed categories. The rules and conditions that apply regarding subject, timing, framing and exhibition in the senior section also apply to the junior section.
The ‘Pix from the Stix’ opening will be held at 7pm on June 20 at the Gloucester Gallery.
