An accomplished long distance runner, Stroud’s St John’s Anglican Church minister completed his first marathon more than 30 years ago.
“I first ran the London marathon in 1983 and have run quite a few marathons since then, most recently the London Marathon in 2011 which I ran in three hours and 57 minutes,” he told the Stroud Community Web.
“I am running the marathon and I’m being sponsored by the Samaritans, the charity that helps a wide variety of people.”
The Samaritans offers support to people in need from all walks of life in the Hunter, Central Coast, Newcastle, Mid North Coast, Mudgee and the Central West.
“I think Samaritans is a very worthwhile cause and I am grateful for any sponsorship,” Father Chris said.
The Sydney Festival of Running takes place on September 21.
Sponsorship forms to support Father Chris are available at the Stroud Anglican and Baptist churches, the Stroud Pharmacy and Stroud Public School. People can also donate via the Samaritans by putting ‘Fr Chris Marathon’ in the comments box.
“I am now training around Stroud and will build up to training runs of around 35km before tapering down ready for the run itself,” Father Chris said.
