Council’s general manager Danny Green said council would also jointly fund a consultant to prepare a business case for whether such a merger would be economically viable.
The cost of the consultant would be in the vicinity of $20,000 for council, Mr Green said, with the State government to fund 50 per cent of the total fee.
Mr Green said one of the main focuses of the consultant’s report would be how Gloucester Shire “assesses its assets”.
He said Great Lakes Shire had a minimal backlog compared to Gloucester.
Councillors will meet with the State-funded facilitator on January 14.
