An organised approach to baiting, trapping and destroying wild dogs may help resolve $1000’s lost and emotional trauma suffered by local farmers.
Local farm manager, Blair Hamilton has watched devastation grow over the years and knew he needed to find a better way to control the problem. He reached asked for help from the Mid North Coast Wild Dog Association Inc.(MNC-WDA Inc.), a not-for-profit organisation with a long-term goal of eradication.
MNC-WDA Inc will be holding a meeting in Gloucester to encourage landowners to join forces to tackle the issue. Founder Helen Tyrrell says the association ensures that members are able to meet obligations of the Local Land Services (LLS) Legislation 2013. The association believes wild dogs are an issue for everyone, stating ‘Our district dog, is your district dog”.
The district meeting will begin at 10:30am on June 4 at the Gloucester Saleyards undercover sales arena. Presentations on the day will include LLS Hunter, National Parks and Wildlife Service – Combined Hunter Wild Dog Association, MNC-WDA Inc. and Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre National Wild Dog Management Facilitator, Greg Mifsud. All concerned community members and landholders are invited to attend.
