After writing a 500-word essay about her passion for hunting, she was chosen to be in the top 20. In order to make it into the top six, she needs earn support through an online voting system.
The contest is for serious outdoors women with a passion for hunting. But also for someone who wants to be positive role model for the next generation of hunters. Extreme Huntress has been running the competition eight for years. Its purpose is to provide positive mentors for women who are new to hunting, shooting and other traditional outdoor sports. They believe preserving outdoor heritage for future generations will ultimately create more conservation stewards for wildlife and their habitat.
Donna grew up with a love for the outdoors on a family property in Gloucester and from there, has taken on a passion for hunting. The importance of conservation and the control of feral animals is a high priority for Donna. She knows the devastating effect feral animals have on the environment and the cost to farmers.
She has learned patience, discipline, ethics, sustainability, appreciation, confidence, perseverance and the value of hard work from hunting. Donna says there is more to hunting than people think. She says people hear the word hunting and the first thing they think of is killing of an animal but it’s so much more than that.
“This is an opportunity for women to get involved in a male dominated sport,” Donna says.
She hopes this will help bring awareness to the community and encourage people to enquire about hunting.
She is honoured to be selected as a semifinalist for the second year running and is aiming at taking it one step further this year. The final six will compete in a head to head challenge involving bowhunting and rifle hunting. Competitors will be scored on a range of skills: long range shooting, target shooting, biathlon and bushcraft skills.
For Donna to make the final six she needs support. Voting closes June 1.
