We will be in the Park from 11am and planting trees and shrubs along the Dell bank just north of the Gloucester Holiday Park.
With help from our council, the plan is for the whole river bank within the park to be cleared of camphor laurel trees and other weeds and replanted with species that grew there in earlier times. In time, this will greatly enhance the appearance of the park, help to limit erosion and improve water quality to benefit our local platypus and water dragons families, providing a safe habitat for our small woodland birds.
People interested in regenerating their own creek or river banks are very welcome to come to see what can be achieved and find out what is best to plant in our region, whether on a property or an urban block. There will be a selection of trees and shrubs and, following planting, a short tour of the Gloucester River bank that has been undergoing regeneration since 2012, will be conducted by the RiverCare team.
RiverCare is a sub-group of the Gloucester Environment Group. We would welcome new members to join the team, so come along and meet us and find out if you would like to become a RiverCarer.
Come and join us and plant a tree yourself! For further information contact: Penny Drake-Brockman on 6558 1845
