The day was meant to be a ribbon day but as there were only a small handful of members there on the day we decided to postpone to the ribbon day.
There are six Gloucester pony club members representing NSW at the Queensland State sporting and campdrafting championships at the end of September this year, we set up some of the sporting events that will be held in Queensland that our children have not yet done.
While Nick Johnston put the children through the stockmans challenge workoutand gave them some helpful tips on what is expected, Howard Shultz and Sally Maslen had groups doing flat work and sporting.
The real fun started in the afternoon. The kids were separated into two teams The Crushers and The Exterminators and they raced each other in relays with Howard Shultz joining the Crushers on foot to make up the numbers.
The relay events were the Mug race, the Ball race and the Bending race which resulted in father (Howard Shultz) and daughter (Amy Shultz) racing each other.
This caused a lot of laughter and cheering as Howard was on foot and Amy riding her horse Wave. The day ended with the kids favourite race, the walk, trot and lead race around the ring with lollies galore.
Our next competition is the Queensland state sporting, campdrafting and formal gymkhana September 28 at Oakey Queensland.
Gloucester pony club will be represented by Jodie Harris, Emma Johnston, Natalie Le Rougetel, Charlotte Maslen, Amy Shultz and Anthony Shultz. These children have all previously competed at state level with astonishing results and the club wishes them all the very best of luck.
