Barry Wade led his team of Neville Holstein, Jean Holstein and Jan Jones to an early 7-0 lead as they won the first 4 ends.
Col Linton joined with wife Julie, Bob Charman and Pirjo Maurer to peg that lead back by taking the next three ends before both sides settled into a close and tight tussle.
The lead changed regularly until Col and team scored a five shot victory on end 13 to get ahead 12 shots to 11 and they then held that advantage until end 20 when with the score at 16 to 15 they managed another five shot victory. This gave them a comfortable lead going to the last end and with the championship lost Barry and his team went down another two shots to lose by 23 shots to 15.
That score does not reflect the tightness of the competition but suggests that two five shot victories decided the champions.
Congratulations to Col, Julie, Bob and Pirjo who are deserved title holders.
On Thursday (September 8), 22 players vied for the one daily prize in three matches of triples and one of pairs competition.
Winners with 18 points and a 29 to 17 shot win were Col Hebblewhite, John West and Kevin Ninness who beat Ray Shepherd, Peter Sansom and Terry Higgins. On Saturday another 22 players contested the day in four matches of pairs and one of triples.
A very clear winning pair with a 39 to nine shot victory and 23 bonus points were Peter Sansom and Tony Tersteeg who beat Terry Carson and Clive Redman.
This week there are a couple of matches to be played in the qualifying round of the mixed pairs championship which will complete the titles available in 2016.
