Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott says the current rain is due to a low pressure system hanging around the eastern seaboard along with a deep trough.
“This will see a few showers on Wednesday night and into Thursday,” she said.
There will also be the potential for a late shower into Friday but this is expected to be very light.
Temperatures through to Friday will be sitting around the 22 degree mark although the cloudy conditions do provide some benefits with the minimum temperatures only dropping to around 10 or 11 degrees most mornings.
Our first real glimpse of some much-needed sunshine will be Saturday – the best day of the weekend, according to Ms Westcott.
“Saturday should see mostly sunny skies with a top temperature of 23 degrees,” she said.
“Unfortunately Sunday could see a shower or two returning.”
Minimum temperatures for Saturday and Sunday will be around the nine degree mark.
The only significant winds expected are on Thursday and Friday and will be from the southwest.
Looking further ahead, Wednesday or Thursday of next week could see another strong rain system coming through eastern seaboard affecting Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
“It is just too early to make a prediction on much rain,” Ms Westcott said.
