The raffle is finished, the winner has been drawn and now it’s time to donate the funds.
Many hours of choosing patterns and hand stitching has resulted in a $1,500 donation toward a new wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Members of Gloucester Patchwork Group Inc invited Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Group Inc to join them at the Barrington Hall on Tuesday, November 15, so they could handover the cheque.
Over the past few months, the Patchwork Group has been running a raffle for a quilt made by Cath McGovern to raise funds to help, The Cottage, part of the Neighbourhood Group, purchase a new van.
Team Leader Disability Services, Mick Blanchard told to the group how important a wheelchair accessible vehicle is to The Cottage.
“The van travels around 200 kilometres a day, three days a week. It’s also used for hospital runs to John Hunter and Manning Base, as well as medical appointments and transporting us for group events,” he said.
He explained how the current van is barely holding together and how in need they are of a new one.
The Neighbourhood Group sent a call out to the community, in November last year, to help them raise the $85,000 required to purchase and fit out a new van.
“It’s great to see the response from the community; from both Gloucester and Stroud,” Mick said.
After the presentation, the Gloucester Patchwork Group celebrated the end of their year with a Christmas lunch.
They will be starting up again in the new year on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Barrington Hall.
