Tahlea Schumann and Melanie Thompson share the role of Gillian’s gung-ho sister Bronwyn.
Isobel MacDougall is the gormless Monica, Liam Bolstad plays the heart-throb Adam, Brayden Woolnough plays wannabe rock star Tony while Emily Cameron and Emily Ryan share the dual roles of the super cool Wendy and beauty queen Karen.
The students have been working on the play since the end of term three.
In Dags, 16-year-old dag Gillian is struggling to deal with the awkwardness of adolescence and her desire to be popular and beautiful.
Will her humorous and disastrous encounters with arrogant school stud Adam and sexually frustrated nerd Derek result in her finding happiness and self-esteem?
This Australian comedy by Debra Oswald was written especially for teenagers and presents issues that everyone faces while growing up.
Gillian is a "dag"—a nerd, a misfit, totally uncool—who sees herself as fat, ugly and a social cripple.
Throughout this play for teenagers, performed by the talented students of Year 10 Drama at Gloucester High School, Gillian takes us on a funny, excruciating journey through the world of adolescent anguish and awkwardness.
The Sydney Morning Herald called Dags, "...a celebration of survival... a paean to self-reliance and self-respect. It is scalding about life's bullies and affectionate about its dags. It is a slice of life that cuts deep."
Tickets are available at the door for $4.
Dags does contain some low level coarse language and adolescent themes.
