The ten hour endurance ride will take place on April 8 at the Wingham Sporting Complex on the Manning Valley Kart Club track.
The goal is to raise more than $15,000 for the Australian Lion’s Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCRF).
Officially established in 2009, the prime focus of the ALCCRF is to increase survival rates of childhood cancer by supporting cancer research efforts not just here in Australia, but around the world.
The event is a follow-on from the Jindaboonda Postie Trek, a 3160km run out west, which saw 23 riders and 27 support crew (including 10 kids under 10) raise close to $54,000 for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) in 2016.
Tinonee’s Daniel Kranz organised the 2016 trek and plans to hold another one in 2018.
Daniel assures us this one will be bigger and better than before with riders covering 5000km over 15 days.
However demand was high for an event to be held this year.
“The riders were chomping at the bit to do something,” Daniel said.
“We decided to do something smaller this year utilising what we already have.”
What Daniel and his extended support crew have is eight decommisionied postie bikes purchased at auction prior to the Jindabooda trek.
It will be 24 riders, in team’s of three, riding non stop in April.
The event will be hosted by the Hallidays Point Lions Club and Daniel is hopeful of reaching the $15,000 target.
Money will be raised by the teams who need to attract sponsorship from businesses on a per lap basis or a lump sum.
The day will also serve as a family fun day with face painting, jumping castles, car show and a Lion’s Club barbecue. There is even talk of a number of live bands playing on the day.
Daniel first started his fundraising efforts following the sudden death in 2015 of his wife’s uncle Dennis Jeffers, an ex postie from Possum Brush.
‘Uncle Den’ died of complications related to Pancreatic Cancer.
