More than 3,000 people flocked to South West Rocks on the weekend for the NSW Surf Life Saving Club Championships.
President of the South West Rocks Chamber of Commerce Troy De Luca said that visitors to the championships provided about $3m of spendings in the town.
“It’s been great, it’s good to have the town buzzing for it,” he said.
Mr De Luca said that the “flow-on effect” of the economic boost would continue to be felt long after visitors to the town had left.
“Businesses have to put more staff on (during the championships), and the money the employees earn gets spent again locally,” he said.
“It’s not just the visitor dollar we are getting, it all has a flow-on effect.”
It’s the second year in a row that South West Rocks has hosted the event.
Mr De Luca thanked the many people who volunteered across the weekend, including those from the Rural Fire Service, Rotary, and the South West Rocks surf club.
