Council appears to have set a new standard by marking give way lines at many local T-junctions around the south-east area of town over the weekend. Going across the normal wheel path of vehicles, give way and other transverse line markings require regular maintenance to address abrasion from vehicle tyres. Although the new markings currently look fresh, their maintenance will be an ongoing financial liability. So, I wonder why they have been installed?

For that matter, I wonder why the zebra crossing was installed on Billabong Lane car park? There is certainly a high volume of foot traffic, but priority should not have been given to pedestrians with the current geometric design. It is difficult for drivers exiting the car park to see people approaching the crossing, particularly at night time. Perhaps these two recent installations haven’t even been approved. According to council’s website, neither are mentioned in the most recently available LTC minutes up to June 7, 2017.
