Gloucester Hockey Club will be kicking of the summer indoor competition at the Gloucester Recreation Centre on Wednesday, October 18.
Off the back of a successful winter outdoor junior competition, the club is expecting a good turn out for the indoor season.
The junior competition will run from 4pm until 5pm, which will involve skills training by some of the senior players, as well as game play between teams. Players in the junior division need to be 13-years and under.
If they are already registered with NSW Hockey from the winter competition, that will cover them for the indoor competition, however there will be a competition fee.
New players will need to register and details will be available on the Gloucester Hockey Club Facebook site or at the recreation centre on the day.
After the juniors are finished there will be an hour break, giving time for juniors to play on or the senior play to begin warming up.
The senior competition will run from 6pm until 7pm with two 30 minutes games played. This division is played as mixed teams with five-a-side, with a varying degrees of skills levels. It’s a great way for new players to come out, learn more about the rules and see if it’s the right sport for them.
Gloucester Hockey Club has been running the indoor competition over the past couple of years with player numbers steadily increasing. The club hopes it will be the same this season.
Although the club wasn’t able to get a senior female team together for the recent Manning Valley outdoor competition, there is hope the indoor competition will attract some new players, or returning past players.
Indoor is a good opportunity for players to work on ball handling skills and controlling the speed of the ball. Things move a lot quicker on the indoor surface, which is why the games are shorter.
The rules are a bit different than outdoor and the teams play without a goalie, however the general principle is the same.
