On Sunday there were two matches scheduled in round one of the mixed fours but one match was deferred and possibly forfeit due to the illness of one player.

In the second match Gary Moss and team took on Lu Urby et al.

Lu had a pretty strong line up going into this game and Norma Relf, Jean Holstein, Tony Tersteeg and Lu did prove too strong for Gary, Hellen Crittenden, Jim Whittaker and Michelle Biggs to the tune of 29 shots to 7.

In a one sided contest the ends went 15 to 6 in Lu's favour. Alongside this match was one played early from next weekends round 2 schedule.

This was a much closer contest and was in fact all square at 20 all going to the last end. A one shot victory on end 21 allowed Di Lockwood, George Wisemantle, John Murray and Bev Murray to advance to the next round over Bev Germon, Jill Everett, Kevin Burley and Kevin Everett.

The ends were 11 to 10 in Bev's favour and the lead changed 4 times through the match. It cannot get any closer and all players must have been on edge throughout. Next Sunday 29th October is the second round with the greens full of teams starting at 0930hrs.

On Saturday the mixed social bowls continued to attract excellent roll ups as 28 players made up 7 matches of pairs competition.

Clear first prize winners were John Andrews and Peter Sansom who scored 20 bonus points on the way to a 30 to 11 shot victory against Lu Urby and Phil Walls.

In second with 18 points were Lorraine Radcliffe and Terry Davies who had a 30 to 20 shot win against Denis Buckton and Bob Jones. In other games, Jan Jones and Tony Tersteeg lost 26 shots to 17 against Terry Carson and Graham Turnbull, Mike Sheely and Joan Ridgeway won 22 shots to 19 against Jill Sheely and Kevin Everett, Del Buckton and Nico Duynhoven beat John Murray and Pirjo Maurer 26 shots to 19, Peter Green and Jill Everett won by 21 shots to 15 against Bev Murray and Neville Atkins and lastly George Wisemantle and Clive Redman won by 27 shots to 16 against Di Lockwood and Jim Whittaker.
