Gloucester’s Emily Kearney beat her personal best time at a recent state swimming competition and received a funding boost to help with her busy swimming schedule.
Member for Lyne, David Gillespie visited Gloucester Public School on Tuesday, December 19 to shake Emily’s hand after she was successful in receiving a Local Sporting Champions (LSC) grant.
LSC program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for young sportsmen and women aged 12-18.
Emily has received a $500 grant that can be used towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state, national or international sporting championships, or a School Sport Australia state, national or international championships.
She competed at the NSW 12 years and under State Age Championships held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in December.
Leading into the competition, she hoped to achieve a personal best in the 50 metre freestyle, which she did with a finish time of 30.31 seconds.
The time means she has qualified to compete at the NSW National Prep Meet to be held in March 2018.
