There was big hair, brief bikinis and facial hair of all descriptions (men only).
It was a summer of cricket, of course, beer, of course, time at the pool.
On the beach there was beach girl competitions and sand modelling.
On the international scene, Charles and Princess Di were making the news; sons William was three and Harry not yet 12 months.
“Careless Whisper” by Wham, featuring George Michael, was on top of the US Billboard followed by Madge (Madonna) and “Like a Virgin”, then Wham again with ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. (Sorry, that one’s going to stick in your head.)
And let’s not forget the movies – Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, St Elmo’s Fire, Fletch and Michael J Fox again with Teen Wolf. Mel Gibson was back as Mad Max, accompanied by Tina Turner in Beyond Thunderdome.
