MidCoast Council’s Ageing and Disability Services team has started the new year by unveiling a new identity, MidCoast Assist.
The ageing and disability services function of MidCoast Council has been a fixture in the community for more than 20 years, operating as Great Lakes Ageing and Disability Services prior to the 2016 council merger. It offered a diverse range of services aimed at supporting older people, their carers, and those living with a disability to lead an active and independent lifestyle.
Paul De Szell, MidCoast Council’s director, community spaces and services, said he welcomed the new brand, which marks the expansion of the service across the entire MidCoast region.
“The merger has provided an opportunity to do things differently, and MidCoast Assist is a terrific example of taking a valuable service from one of the former regions and extending it to our broader community”.
The MidCoast Assist team is made up of local professionals across two distinct and specialised areas – aged care, and disability support services – who pride themselves on a personalised approach that acknowledges that everyone’s needs are unique.
“All the MidCoast Assist staff live locally, they know their clients well, and they take time to get to know the people that matter to them, their situations, and their goals and aspirations”, Paul said.
As a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider, MidCoast Assist’s disability services arm offers NDIS participants advice and support in establishing and managing their NDIS plan and funding, and assistance in coordinating support services. A regular monthly calendar of activities also brings participants together to develop skills, try something new, build friendships, and to live more independently.
In ageing services, the team offers in- and out of home services, designed to assist people over 65 years to live independently in their own homes for longer. Services include help in navigating the My Aged Care system, social outings, assistance with daily activities such as transport or shopping, and delivery of the federal government’s Home Care Packages.
The new name and logo will roll out from January 2018. For more information about the services provided by MidCoast Assist, or to request contact, please visit www.midcoastassist.com.au or call 1300 65 88 30.
