Police were called to Wherrol Flat, near Wingham, about 10.40pm Sunday, after a report a car had been shot at following an argument between two men, aged 25 and 48.
Inside the car at the time were the 25-year-old man, a 21-year old man, and two women, aged 21 and 18. The car sustained damage to a rear tail light.
Police attended a nearby home and arrested the 48-year-old man. Two registered firearms – a rifle and a revolver – were seized.
The man was taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with discharge firearm in a manner likely to injure person or property. His firearms licence was also suspended.
He was refused bail to appear at Taree Local Court on Monday, January 8.
Police will allege the two men were known to each other.
