How about a veggie patch?

The Tucker Patch is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation designed to encourage and support the local growing of seasonal, chemical-free produce.

It’s a community initiative that brings growers and consumers together.

But it offers more than just a produce stall at the Gloucester Markets and Friday morning Farmgate Stall, it’s also a community hub for learning and working together.

On its site at Cemetery Road, the Tucker Patch not only has a Food Forest were volunteers work together to grow produce to sell, but it also has market garden plots available for people to grow things themselves.

Members of the community can lease a plot or two and grow whatever they want for either person use, to sell at the stall or a bit of both.

The plots are available for anyone, regardless of how much experience or inexperience you have; as it’s a community hub, there are lots of opportunities to take part in the Learning Workshops.  

If a plot isn’t what you’re after but you still want to get involved The Tucker Patch is always looking for volunteers.

The organisation also relies on its network of growers from around the Gloucester area, who grow produce on their properties and bring to the stall to sell on a weekly basis.

This network is open to chemical-free growers who have a glut of produce they are looking to sell or who simply wants to bring their product to the community.

Friday’s Farmgate Stall is open summer hours from 9am to 11:30am and in the cooler season from 10am until 12:30pm, but don’t worry if you can’t make it during that time you can order a Tucker Box the day before and have it delivered free of charge within Gloucester town.
