Destination NSW has teamed up with Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) to offer six scholarships to people in regional NSW to undertake a diploma of event management.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said the scholarships have been created to support aspiring event managers in the Mid Coast region who want to get a head start in their career.
“Whether you are young or old, this is a fantastic opportunity for those wanting to upskill and achieve their career goals within the events industry,” Mr Bromhead said.
“The course will be delivered via an online learning tool allowing students to complete the tasks at their own pace and in their own time.”
NSW Tourism and Major Events Minister Adam Marshall said the partnership stems from the $6 million Regional Conference Strategy and Action Plan which was launched last year.
“Our partnership with MEA reaffirms our commitment to making NSW the number one choice when it comes to hosting conferences and business events,” Mr Marshall said.
Mr Bromhead added that upskilled event managers can help cause a positive flow-on effect for the State’s economy.
“The scholarship program aims to upskill our regional workforce in the hope that they will stay to contribute to the industry with festivals and events like the Wingham Akoostik, the Old Bar Beach Festival and popular music festivals in the Forster and Tuncurry communities which help drive the State’s economy,” Mr Bromhead said.
