It’s an opportunity that you can’t put a price on. If you have five original songs or pieces of music, and you live within the MidCoast Council boundaries, you have a chance to grab the experience.
Not A Cafe in Wingham is holding a music competition and the first prize is a set on the 2018 Akoostik stage, on the Saturday or Sunday of the festival weekend.
The competition is open to all ages and all musical genres, and you must be a resident of the MidCoast Council area. If you are competing as a band, 50 per cent of band members must live in the area.
Submissions are to be made to Belinda at Not a Cafe. The music will be uploaded to Facebook for public voting. Out of the results of the Facebook votes, a finals concert will be held at Jacaranda Estate Vineyards in Wingham and the winner will be decided by three judges. “Originally we were going to offer them to record a CD, but then Akoostik just threw it out there and said ‘they can play at Akoostik’,” Belinda said.
Finals will be in May, with the winner announced on June 9. Belinda said if all goes well, the competition will become an annual event on the Wingham calendar. Songs can be submitted to in CD or MP3 format. For information email notacafewingham@gmail.com.
