After starting on the path to a Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade with Drifta Camping and 4WD four years ago and they are now fully signed off.
The certificate required classroom work through TAFE which mostly took place once a week at Drifta with the TAFE instructor coming to them, although they did that to travel to the Taree campus on a couple of occasions.
Otherwise, they learnt most of their trade through practical experience, building the Drifta Offroad Tourer (DOT) from the ground up. They did the medal work, putting together the chassis and the body of the trailer.
Jack said the apprenticeship experience has been great.
Shane agreed, “I always wanted to do a trade.”
Both are glad that not only will their pay packet increase, but study part of the experience is over.
