The Panthers came up against the Sharks in a late night match on the sand-based turf in Taree. The Gloucester team continued experimenting with their new team format and positioning with success.
Paul Rosenbaum was the first to strike with a goal early in the first half. Dale Tonks soon added to the tally for the Panthers.
The Sharks fought back to see the score line 2-1 by the end of the first half. Gloucester continued to maintain pressure in the second half with a second goal going to Dale and further goals to Mark Coombes and Bruce Snape.
A further goal to the Sharks wasn’t enough to overcome the Panthers final score of 5-2.
Next week, the men’s team take on the Taree Tigers second team in the division three competition. With some former Gloucester players in the team, it promises to be an interesting match.
Under 13’s mixed division
The new junior Panthers had its first game back after the holidays last Saturday, April 28 in the Manning Valley competition and they came out firing.
Some lovely passing down the right side of the field forced a penalty on the Chatham Wolves. A great pass into the circle found Ryan Beggs on the baseline who was able to pick it up and, with some back stick skills, was able to get around the keeper and flick it into the goal.
Play turned around on the team though and despite some wonderful team play, they couldn’t keep out the Chatham team. Chatham was able to level up the score line.
Pressure continued against the Panthers and soon they conceded a second goal to the Chatham team. The Gloucester Panthers went down this week 2-1.
Play of the day this week went to Kyden DeAngelis for his consistent pressure through the centre play and great leadership skills .
This coming Saturday, May 5 the Gloucester team take on Wingham.
