Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Debutante Ball is on at the Winning Post Function Centre, which will be transformed into a glamorous setting for the group of 15 to 19 year-olds to show off their weeks of hard work and committed dance/etiquette practice.
The families of the seven debutantes and their partners are very excited to be supporting the return of old world values.
A group of community volunteers have worked hard behind the scenes to secure venues, source decorations, agree on menus, attire, entertainment and so on.
However, it is the local dance specialists who have really outdone themselves by giving these tech savvy kids a reality check.
They have effortlessly bought them back to grass roots and rehearsed several old-time dances such as the progressive barn dance and gypsy tap in a nod to past tradition.
Parents and local parish priests Father James and Father George have not been left out. They too have been twirling around the floor getting event ready alongside the couples.
The event will feature a special appearance by the Ubuntu African Choir, who will receive profits from the ball to support their tour of the east coast of Australia.
They are young adults from some of the poorest backgrounds in Uganda and Kenya and have never seen or participated in the likes of the June 9 spectacular. It will be a night to remember for many.
Organisers thank St Clare’s and St Joseph’s for the use of their halls for dance lessons, Anne and Neil from the local Catholic parish for their help starting the children off on the dance journey and Julie, Mark and Rosie for the additional dance knowledge, Winning Post Function Centre for its generous support, Nerida from Yarads Menswear for help with fittings and to all others who went above and beyond during preparations.
Many local dignitaries will be present on June 9, and people are invited to come along and show support.
