Each year on the last Sunday of June, ORRCA members gather together with interested members of the public to count the humpback and southern right whales as they migrate northwards up along our coastlines.
There are many ideal vantage places along our coastlines which provide perfect platforms from which to watch and count these magnificent creatures and observe their behaviour.
ORRCA is encouraging members of the public to become involved in this year’s count. It is a free activity to take part in plus it is a great way for the whole family to be involved in some of Australia’s whale research.
The 2018 ORRCA Whale Census Day is on Sunday, June 24 from sunrise to sunset. Go along to your nearest headland with your binoculars, and start counting!
To take part all you need to do is go to www.orrca.org.au and click on ‘2018 census’ to download a log sheet. Take it with you on your day out, and when it is filled in, you an either email it to orrca@orrca.org.au, or post it to ORRCA at PO Box 4439, East Gosford, NSW 2500 as soon as possible.
