With around 120 stalls, close to double the amount in 2017, this year’s annual event definitely made a statement.
Organised by the Gloucester Business Chamber, Gloucester Chill Out covered a much larger physical footprint.
There were stalls lining the centre of Church Street from the roundabout to King Street, with business owners taking advantage of the footpath by bringing there shops onto the street. The Show n Shine car display had a dominating presence filling Denison street west of Church Street and covering half of the Billabong carpark. The other half of the carpark was home to the food and beverage stalls with plenty of tables and chairs set up for everyone to sit and enjoy. More stalls were to be found on both sides of Billabong Park, along with a designated ‘kids zone’ near the existing playground.
But the festival wasn’t just about all the goodies you could get at the stalls, there was also plenty to see and do. The bucking bull offered a challenge for those willing to have a go and the dog show attracted a large collection of dog lovers, while the woodchop had people cheering in the streets.
There was a range of live music at various locations around the festival offering a bit of foot-tapping fun and if you were interested in wonders of science, you could check out the Science and Engineering Challenge.
Chamber treasurer, Ernie Abeysekera said that overall the day was a success with one local commenting that this was the best Chill Out Festival they’d ever been too.
Looking forward, Gloucester Business Chamber would love to get community feedback about what they’d like to see at next year’s event. The hope is that more organisations and sports clubs will get involved and set up their own skill and chance games.
“The purpose of Chill Out is for the community to raise money, whether it be for business or community groups,” Ernie said.
