Outstanding tennis was played at the Gloucester tennis courts over the October long weekend during the Gloucester Open Bronze Australian Money Tournament (AMT) and Junior Tournament (JT).
Perfect conditions greeted competitors, who competed for more than $5000 in cash and prizes.
A total of 641 matches were played.
Newcastle’s Luke Rankovich took out the AMT men’s singles in a 6-4 3-6 (10-2 tie break) win over Ryan Morris from Sydney.
In the women’s event, number one seed Tianna McGarvie had a close match against Emma Pollock finally coming through by winning 7-5 4-6 (10-8 tie break).
Bell Green presented the Peter Green Memorial Special Men’s Singles to Newcastle’s Kieran Slatter, who defeated Ryan Morris in a tight match 8-7(6).
Merilyn Relf’s granddaughter Tara presented the Merilyn Relf Memorial Special Women’s Singles to Jodie Sheraton.
“It was a special day for the club to be able to honour two of our members and share with their family,” tournament secretary Ruth Johnson said.
Gloucester’s Shania Richards teamed with brother Lleyton to be runner-up in the B-grade mixed doubles.
Sam Ashton made his way to the quarter finals in the 14 and under boys singles consolation.
