With the mercury rising, now is the perfect time to jump into the pool.

Members of the Gloucester Thunderbolts Swimming Club have chosen the ideal summer sport, where they can keep cool and fit at the same time.

The club has kicked off its 2018/19 season with 64 swimmers taking water at the Gloucester Swimming Pool on Thursday November 1.

In the spirit of the club’s motto, the club is open to all swimmers of any age or ability with the club nights focusing on swimmers besting their own times.

Swimmers can opt to take part in any or all of the training sessions offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon as a warm up for the weekly club night swim.

The training squads are broken up into abilities and the instructor, Sue Kingston, works with the swimmers on stroke correction, endurance and fitness.

The regular swim club night takes place on Thursdays from 6pm and involves a series of timed races for the different strokes and distances.

Swimmers take part in whichever races they want, earning personal bests (PBs) by beating their own best times. The last two weeks of the season, the club holds its championships where swimmers race against their age group. The club hosts an annual carnival where they invite swimmers from all the clubs in the region to come to Gloucester for a day of racing fun. Members are also invited to attend various swimming competitions held at other clubs around the region, with several swimmers heading to Taree on November 10 for a qualifying meet.

Members can join at anytime, and if you’re interested, you can even give it a go for three weeks for free before signing up.
