On October 26, nine players contested the 2018 Beaton Shield at the Gloucester Croquet Club, with sponsor Shirley Beaton, one of our members now from Fern Bay playing. Great to have you back Shirley.
Format for the day was handicapped singles, 13-point games first to seven hoops, knocked out after two losses.
Players were Ashleigh Hickman 5-7, 4-7. Brenda Pennicuik 7-5, 7-5, 7-4, 6-7 and through to semi final. Lyn Stewart 6-7, 6-4, 7-4, 5-7. Shirley Beaton 7-6, 6-7, 4-7. Yvonne Bagnall 7-4, 7-6, 7-6 through to finals undefeated. Paul Cusack, a new player and playing his first competition, 4-7, 4-6. Al Minis 5-7, 7-4, 4-7. Judy Hopkins 7-4, 4-7, 6-7 and Ken Gosson 5-7, 7-5, 7-6. Unfortunately, Ken was unable to play in the semifinals on Saturday having to forfeit to Brenda.
Saturday morning Yvonne Bagnall and Brenda Pennicuik played the finals with Brenda winning 7-6. As this was Yvonne’s first loss she was able to challenge Brenda with the second game which also went Brenda’s way7-5, with Brenda the winner. Congratulations to both players.
Three players also broke their handicaps. Judy Hopkins is now an 8, Brenda Pennicuik a 6 and Yvonne Bagnall a 5.
