Collectively known as the MidCoast Knitting Nannas against gas and greed, the group will knit with white wool for Manning Great Lakes Police District’s Biggest White Ribbon initiative.
The initiative is part of a domestic violence awareness campaign.
The Nannas will knit between 10am and noon before delivering their contributions to Taree Police Station.
All contributions that have been collected since the initiative launch in July will be stitched together to form Australia’s largest white ribbon.
The ribbon will be displayed at Club Taree on Friday, November 23.
It is imperative that domestic violence must end.
On average, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.
In Australia one in four children is exposed to domestic violence.
Research suggests that children exposed to domestic violence are more likely to perpetrate this violence in adulthood.
This vicious cycle of violence must end.
