Over the years, you’ve only been able to enjoy their country, folk flavour live at the various pubs and events they’ve played, until now. The long time Gloucester band is getting ready to officially launch their debut CD “First Cut”.
Recorded by renowned musician Robbie Long at Funky Lizard Studio in Newcastle, the CD features eight songs, including four original numbers.
Accordion player and percussionist for the band, Leanne Barrett said this was the first time in a recording studio for most of the band members.
“It has been a fascinating experience” Leanne said. “The process of producing a CD in physical and digital form has been a steep learning curve but we have had great support.”
The band comprises of musicians from around the region, with Leanne, Scott Hoy (guitar, banjo) and Steve Yarnold (bass) from Gloucester, Kathy Aquilina (vocal, guitar, ukulele) and Lloyd Aquilina (mandolin) from Markwell, and John Melville from Bootawa (harmonica and vocals).
The opportunity to record the CD came up after their performance at recent festival.
“We were lucky enough to play at the Karuah Bluegrass Festival this year, and won their ‘Political Agitation’ songwriting contest,” Leanne said.
“The prize included recording time at Funky Lizard Studio, which gave us the incentive to record a CD.”
Leanne said the band is thankful for Robbie Long’s patience and skill in the recording studio, and fellow, musician Gleny Rae for her ongoing encouragement. Adding to the local creation, Gloucester artists, Adele Compton and Lauren McCrae also contributed to the final look of the CD.
“It was a pleasure to work with such talented and helpful people,” Leanne said.
The official launch is at The Bucketts Way Motel on Saturday, December 1 at 6pm, where the band will also perform.
