It’s a time of year when people take time out to from their busy schedules to enjoy the simple pleasures of life; food, family, a bit of fun and the joy of giving and receiving gifts.
Many people celebrate in different ways, like dressing up and having their picture taken with Santa, like the Doolan family. They took advantage of the photo in the park offered by Gloucester photographe,r Sharon Benson. Not only is the photo something the family will cherish forever, but they have also helped contribute to the donation Santa is making to help the Australian farmers struggling with drought conditions.
Other members of the community also looked to help out others struggling financially this Christmas by donating either a gift or funds to the Bucketts Way Neighbourhood Group’s giving tree.
The tree started up three years ago as a way of encouraging the community to support each other during this festive season. It’s a chance for those more fortunate to give a little to those who are having a rough year.
“It’s so that everyone has a Christmas,” BWNG’s Kim Wiesner said. “Christmas is all about giving.”
There are gifts for all ages from babies to grandparents, all divided up into different age groups and genders.
“Anyone in Gloucester who’s doing it tough this Christmas can come down and collect something from the tree to ensure their family has something to open on Christmas morning.”
There are also Christmas hampers and food available to ensure people have something to put on their table.
The BWNG is located at 88 King Street, Gloucester and is open Monday to Friday from 9am until 4pm with the last day open before Christmas being Friday December 21
