"The girls are a lot bigger and the hits are a lot harder," Tayla smiled. "But I love it."

She was chosen to play in the front row for the team's first game against the West Tigers on Saturday March 23 in the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership.

It was a home game played on Dudley Oval and they won 20-0.

"It was very physical," she said. "I was the smallest person on the field."

But it doesn't worry her; the physically of the sport is her favourite part.

Tayla really enjoys the full contact aspect of footy as she finds it to be very empowering.

"It's such a male dominated sport, it's good to be able to go out there an do it myself."

For Tayla, it's a way of proving that females are equally as good, or in this case, equally as aggressive as the men.

She trained a bit with the Newcastle side last year while she was completing her HSC at Gloucester High School after having played in the Hastings Nines. 

This year, she's worked her way up in the training circle and has found herself on the field with three current and one former Jillaroos.

"It's awesome," Tayla said. "I'm very honoured to play alongside these women."

For the squad of around 30 to 40 women, training takes place on Wednesday, at which time a team of 18 to 20 players is chosen. The team, coached by former Newcastle Knight coach, Rick Stone, trains on the Friday before a weekend game, then the process is restarts the following week. It's a way to making sure all the players get a chance to shine.

"It's all about competitive training and to have the best side playing in each game," Tayla explained. 

When she isn't training or playing, Tayla is studying Exercise Sport Science at the University of Newcastle with hopes of working alongside sporting teams whether she continues to play for not. But her future dreams do include the NRL's wonmen's competition.

"I aspire to get to the next level," Tayla smiled.
