From beeswax wraps to decluttering our homes and re-imagining our wardrobes, each of the workshops has helpful tips, ideas and lessons on how you can become more environmentally conscious and simple things you can do to reduce waste.
"With a renewed social movement that's committed to reducing waste and with people becoming more environmentally aware than we've ever seen, we're delighted to be bringing these workshops to our libraries," council's libraries manager, Chris Jones said.
"There's no better time than now to start making changes and the workshops are a fun, friendly way to learn simple things anyone can do to make a difference to the environment."
Workshops are being held at the following locations:
- Less is More: Declutter Workshops - Friday May 10, Gloucester Library 10:30am - 12:30pm, and Saturday May 18, Forster Library, 2pm - 4pm.
- Slow Clothing Workshop - Friday May 24, Tea Gardens Library, 10.30am - 12.30pm.
Less is More: Declutter Workshops
Learn how to declutter your home - and your life - so you have more space for the things that matter.
Presented in partnership with Midwaste Regional Waste Forum, these are a great way to get on the Marie Kondo bandwagon and free up space in your home as well as your mind.
Slow Clothing Workshop
Imagine creating a whole new wardrobe from what you already own.
You might not realise that fast fashion is a major contributor to our increasing waste problem, with clothing production having almost doubled in the last 15 years. This information session is designed to inspire and encourage you, and share skills, so that you can re-imagine your wardrobe, or any op-shop find, into a new garment, that you will love and treasure.
These workshops aim to inspire creative thinking about ways to extend the useful life of unloved clothes.
Bring along a few garments from your wardrobe that you aren't wearing (or op-shop finds). The group will discuss options to adapt them and make changes using hand-stitched techniques. You'll need a simple sewing kit (scissors, needles and threads) if you have it, and some extra fabric remnants or a surplus t-shirt too.
Tickets are free for all workshops but bookings are essential and can be made at www.midcoastlibraries.com.au/events.
