Kevin Frost was in the dining room of Stroud Community Lodge when Reginald Hunter joined him at the dining table.
The two men both thought the other looked familiar - when they realised they had not seen each other for 50 years.
The pair grew up together, Kevin living at Morisset and Reginald at Coooranbong.
Each Friday night they would catch the train together to either Wyong or Gosford to go to the dances. This was a weekly tradition until they both married and moved out of the area.
Kevin was a butcher at Raymond Terrace for many years and he moved into Stroud Lodge when his wife Betty passed away.
Reginald lives in Gloucester with his daughter and was only at Stroud Lodge for a short respite stay - but long enough to renew a valued acquaintance.
