In a ceremony held on Monday May 13, seven members were awarded a Commissioners Unit Citation by the NSW SES Northern Zone Deputy Commander Anthony Day and MidCoast Council mayor David West.
The Citations were awarded to Stephen Harris, Greg Snape, Sandy Snape, Stuart Hay, Pamela Linsley, Brian Linsley and Roger Walton primarily for the 2015 Stroud flood event, along with other emergencies they have worked through to ensure a positive outcome.
Stroud a small unit if you look at membership, however, it continues to "punch above its weight" in responding to and managing emergency response in the local area, assisting across NSW and other States when requested.
The evening provided the opportunity to thank the families and friends of SES members who support us in the delivery of our services.
Stroud flood event
Late in the evening of Monday April 20, 2015 the first call for assistance was received by the Stroud SES Unit for a damaged roof in Tea Gardens.
This heralded the beginning of what was later to be called the "Storm of the Century".
Through the effort of community members, emergency services, Police, Ambulance Service and Utility companies, no lives were lost in our area of operations.
Stroud SES members and others did place themselves in harms way for example at Stroud Showground. To ensure their safety and the welfare of others they utilised their training, equipment and strong working relationships to achieve the common goal of protecting our communities.
Members of the Stroud SES Unit were active in response to this storm for a number of weeks assisting the townships, villages, rural properties and visitors to our area.
