Veterans Championships
The Champions for 2019 were decided last week, with Roy Crichton just holding on to take the veterans overall championship. Vets Captain Bill Murray held off the challengers to take out the B Grade championship and Bert Newman had a come from behind win in C Grade. Elaine Murray was crowned Ladies veteran champion. The daily competition was sponsored by Roy and Joyce Crichton. The daily winner was Bert Newman on 71 nett, runner up was Glyn Reece on 74 with balls going to Joost Werz 76, Elaine Murray, Mark Stone and Denver Webb on 79, with David Hjorth, Bob Kirkup, Pam Paff and Bill Murray on 81 nett. Nearest the pins went to Roy Crichton and Sally Higgins on 4/13, and Chris Pritchard on 6/15. Ian Maggs had the best day with the putter, taking only 29 putts, and Peter Wildblood took out the Stayers award.
Jason Collins Transport - Single Stableford Event
A single stableford was played on Saturday & a quality field of 37 golfers took to the course. The greens, although tricky at times, are still in superb shape & Rossy is to be commended. Trophies were kindly donated by big Jack Collins. Thank you Jack & Michele - you have been long term supporters of our club & it is greatly appreciated. Winners on the day: A Grade winner went to Wayne Maddalena with a very honest score of 36 points. I had the pleasure of playing with Wacka on the day & his consistency was something to behold. B Grade & best score of the day was the recently retired captain Matt Groves with a brilliant 41 points. Great shooting Mathew! One would assume you & your partner had a win in the matchplay with a score like that. The C Grade win went to the ever reliable Rick Paff with 35 points. Rick is very passionate about his golf & it is great to see him in the winners' circle once again. NTPs: A. Phil Bowden; B. Denver Webb; C. Paul Coote. B Grade Long Drive: Mark Howland (shot Duck). Ball Comp winners include the abovementioned players as well as Dave Mann 37; Paul Blanch 35, Hairy Osborne 34; Steve MacDonald 34; Peter Bignell 34; Steve Williams 33. Not one player managed to land on the 7th green in two & therefore no 2nd shot awarded. Next week's event is a stroke event for the Arkwood Monthly Medal. It is tremendous to see the Clarke family continuing the sponsorship of this each & every month. Also, don't forget to put you & your partner's name down for the Men's Foursomes (Sun 21 July). We need to build the numbers up again for these very important championship days. Good golfing. Shanker's apprentice.
