Nine players entered the event with a perfect day to start, followed by the wind making the second day not so pleasant. Games were 45-minute timed, played as a two-life knockout.
Results were: Shirley Beaton with two very close games 6-7, 6-7; Paul Cusack 4-7 and 5-7; Brenda Pennicuik 7-4, 3-7 and 5-7; Ashleigh Hickman 1-7, 7-5, 4-7; Lyn Stewart 6-7, 7-6, 7-4, 4-7; Col Weismantel 6-7, 7-6, 7-4, 4-7; Ken Gosson 7-6, 3-7, 7-4, 6-7; Al Minis 7-1, 7-3, 5-7, 7-6; Yvonne Bagnall 7-6, 7-6, 7-3, 7-5.
With all other players out, this left Al and Yvonne to progress to the finals the following day. Al already had one loss while Yvonne was yet to be beaten.
Both players gave those who had come to watch an excellent display of tactical croquet. With Al playing off a handicap of 4 and Yvonne on 5 Al was unable to answer to Yvonne on the day. Yvonne took the game 7-6 with her extra turn still in hand.
Congratulations to all players, in particular Yvonne, as winner of the handicapped singles for 2019.
