Gloucester folk turn out in their finery as the town gets a visit from NSW Governor, 1972

Sir Roden Cutler V.C, Governor of NSW, visited Gloucester on March 4, 1972. The official party travelled in the crown car into Gloucester with a police escort via Trunk Road 90 (Bucketts Way) arriving at the Bucketts Motel for an official luncheon.

His Excellency and Lady Cutler were greeted by Mr L.A Punch, Member for Gloucester, who then presented councillor Ross Shaw (president of Gloucester Shire) and Mrs Shaw who were the hosts for the visit.

His Excellency was invited by Mr Stan Wilson, president of Gloucester RSL, to inspect a guard of honour of returned service personnel.

The official luncheon was taken at the Bucketts Motel with Mr P Lucock, federal member), Gloucester Shire councillors: Mr E Higgins, deputy shire president, Mr A Gresham, Mr R. Higgins, Mr D. McRae, Mr C. Martin, Mr F.K. Smith, Mr A.J. White accompanied by their wives. Shire Clerk Mr D Maytom and Mrs Maytom, Mr and Mrs T Higgins (representing Gloucester RSL Club). Reverend Ken Steele said Grace, councillor Shaw proposed the loyal toast and Mr Lucock delivered a vote of thanks.

Following lunch, Sir Roden and Lady Cutler were escorted on a town tour, arriving at Gloucester District Park for a Civic welcome. Mr Toby Kennett invited the Governor to inspect the guard of honour of cubs and scouts.

After being introduced to Mr and Mrs K Watt (resident of Gloucester Swimming Club) and Mr and Mrs J Lohan (Secretary of the swimming club), the official party mingled with students from Gloucester and district schools.
