Queen Street, between Church and Ravenshaw Streets, will undergo a major transformation over coming months with phase one due to start on Monday, January 20.
The major overhaul, which will address the steep slope toward the kerb, will be undertaken in two distinct phases.
Residents can expect to see road crews begin work on the section between Barrington and Ravenshaw Streets with this initial phase involving reconstruction to provide a smoother and more durable driving surface. Works on this 220 metre section of Queen Street are expected to continue over seven weeks, weather permitting.
Designs for phase two, involving the section between Church and Barrington Streets, are nearing completion and will soon go out to tender.
As with any major roadworks, disruptions to traffic and pedestrian access can be expected in both phases of the project. This will include short periods of road closures, single-lane closures, pedestrian detours and parking restrictions at different times throughout the construction period. Further information will be made available in advance of these disruptions. Council staff will work with business owners within the work zone to maintain access for staff, customers and deliveries for the duration of the project.
