The year 2020 will herald the opening of the new Anglican Care nursing home in Gloucester. It will also see the transfer of beds from Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital to Anglican Care. Neither the staff nor residents were consulted on this arrangement. Naraweena and Hillcrest are to be closed but the fate of Kimbarra has not been revealed and the staff and residents need to know what the government intends to do with it asap or are we going to get another fait accompli?

The substitute planned by Anglican Care does not compare with the excellent buildings and facilities we enjoy and the wonderful staff who care for us.
Over the years, Gloucester has lost many government owned facilities - the Power House (a bad decision in their present crisis), the Pastures Protection Board (now known as Local Land Services), Centrelink (which gave us access to legal aid and other needed services), and our biggest loss, the Gloucester Shire Council. The hospital was made to employ an outside caterer to supply frozen food instead of the local food freshly grown and reared here, cooked in a good kitchen by local staff.
The State Government must stop the rape of country towns causing the loss of local enterprise and employment opportunities, especially for young people.
