And with the environment in desperate need of positive action, now more than ever, Clean Up is calling on the Australian community to step up and register or get involved in an event.
The first Gloucester-based event to be registered for the Sunday, March 1 nationwide activity is being organised by Gloucester Rotary's Interact Club.
Anyone looking to get involved can meet in Billabong Park from 9am near the platypus statue. There will be a barbecue and drinks for sale with clean up work taking place until noon. Everyone is welcome to join in at anytime, just bring along a hat and gloves. Participants under 18 years of age will need parental consent.
"This year, we want Australians to step up and think about the positive changes they can make for the environment every day, whether that's using reusable coffee cups, refusing excess packaging or learning more about recycling correctly - each small change will go towards environmental change," Clean Up Australia Chairman, Pip Kiernan said.
Funds raised go towards vital educational resources and clean up materials provided free of charge to community, school and youth groups across the nation, throughout the year, educating the next generation on the importance of Clean Up.
To register your Clean Up, sign up to a Clean Up or donate go to cleanup.org.au. You can donate via the Gloucester Interact Club registered event by searching under the postcode, 2422.
