It was among the matters debated by the newly formed council in April 2018 at the first ordinary meeting held Gloucester. The matter was held over from the former Gloucester Shire Council which had sat unresolved for around seven years.
At the Gloucester meeting, several members of the community spoke to the matter, some for and some against.
The road was used to cross Barrington River prior to 1969 when a new crossing was constructed. Gloucester council used the road to access a quarry leased from the property owners and when the lease ended in 2012, the owners sought to buy the land and close the road to the public.
Currently the road provides public access for water activities such as kayaking and canoeing on the river.
Recently the matter returned to the council papers with all interested persons invited to make submissions by Monday, June 29 via the council website form at www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/Have-Your-Say/Proposed-road-closure-Old-Bowman-Farm-Road-Gloucester, or by email or post.
