The GPS P and C committee has been working toward updating the rundown play equipment in the infants outdoor area for the past few years and on Monday, June 22 it was finally ready for use.

Works for the new inclusive playground were partly funded by the NSW Government My Community Project grant and partly by the P and C's diligent fundraising.

The grant project was an initiative run by the State Government last year that gave the residents of each electorate the chance to vote for a project that wanted to see completed.

Thanks to the support of the Gloucester community, GPS successfully received $100,000 toward the project.

It was a very emotional day for the P and C committee to see their hard work and dedication finally pay off.

"It's very exciting," P and C president Sally Maslen said.

"That's all I can say, it's so exciting for the children to have a new playground."

Member for Upper Hunter, Michael Johnsen attended the official opening event at GPS and assisted the school's captains with the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The colourful new structure comes complete with slides, stepping stones and lots of different climbing equipment purposely designed to cater to all ages and abilities.

"It was a team effort between the school and the P and C to get the project complete," Sally said.

"Thank you to the State Government and the community for voting for it."

The My Community Project grant program winners were announced in September 2019.

Out of the 28 projects up for votes in the Upper Hunter electorate, only the top three were given funding. GPS scored the second highest number of votes at 981, not far off the top vote getter, Dungog's James Theatre project, with 989 votes.

"My Community Project captured the imagination of our Upper Hunter Electorate community with people putting a lot of work into their ideas and it was great to see people get behind the projects that matter to them," Mr Johnsen said.
