A free virtual careers expo focusing on vocational careers is being staged online on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 for NSW students in years 10-12.

The My Journey Virtual Expo is one of the largest virtual career expos of its kind in NSW. More than 100 schools across the State have registered, including Taree High School and St Clare's High School, Taree.

Exhibitors from across Australia are taking part representing employers, colleges and further education providers, youth service providers, industry representatives and the university sector.

The My Journey Career Expo facilitates networking through virtual booths, live webinars and chat rooms to simulate the experience observed in physical events. Students will be able to download exhibitor information into their virtual backpacks and then email the contents to their email address.

Not-for-profit organisation Career Links has been delivering successful career expos for more than 10 years.

"COVID-19 has had such an impact on the education of our young people, we were determined to support them at this difficult time," general manager John Purcell said.

"We were disappointed with the cancellation of career expos across the State due to COVID-19. We believe all students should have the same opportunities regardless of external forces impacting them."

The expo will take place on both days from 12 midday to 8pm. The timing is to ensure parents and carers are able to attend with their children during the two live days.

The My Journey Careers Expo is delivered by the NSW Department of Education's Head Teacher Careers Pilot and SBAT Mentors Pilot, supported by the Education Pathways Policy Program and Career Links.
