Tuesday December 15 was washed out with heavy rains on the day and the following week, December 22, overnight rain was so heavy as to completely submerge teeing areas and walkways!
The rain seems to have done the course little harm as it is looking and playing as well as it has done for some years.
Sharon and Mark Stone's much delayed sponsorship from December 15 supported the veteran golfers on Tuesday December 29 with a good field of 24 celebrating a welcome return to golfing.
The event was an individual Stableford and it was won by Mike Howard who "amassed" 40 points ... head and shoulders ahead of the field.
Following Mike Howard was the still-in-form Phil Harkins with 37 points followed by some so-so scores in the associated ball competition: Bill Murray 34 points, Jim Dunn and Elaine Murray 33, and Mark Howland, Jim Russell, Col Roser and Peter Wildblood 32.
Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Mike Howard at the 4th-13th holes and by Dale Rabbett and Mark Howland at the 6th-15th holes.
The "stayers award" went to John Herd.
On Tuesday January 5, there was another individual Stableford this time sponsored by the Gloucester Veteran Golf Club, with vet's skipper Derek Bradwell sneaking home with 36 points and a win in a field of only 15 players.
Although the day itself was warm and sunny golf cart were not permitted with the surface still recovering from the recent rain.
Following Derek home were runner up, Mike Howard 34, followed by Dave Salmon 30 and Tony Barnet and Mark Stone 32 all picking up balls for their trouble.
The Nearest-to-the-Pins was won by Derek Bardwell at the 6th-15th hole. The stayers award went to Bill Murray for a sterling effort on the day.
On Tuesday January 12, veteran golfers are playing a Four Ball better Ball Stableford with an individual Stableford in conjunction sponsored by Di and Steve Burns. Marg and Brian McInnes are sponsoring an Individual Stroke and putting competition on Tuesday January 19.
