The day itself was well attended despite the conditions which were typified by squally showers and a terrain that allowed for little or no run for most shots.
The greens were well soaked with the rain and a ball hit to the green pretty much stopped where it landed or bounced back a tad with the spin of the shot and the green's softness.
The event, an individual stroke and putting competition, was sponsored by Phil Hawkins.
The winner Jim Russell was the only player to play to his handicap, good enough in the condition to secure the win with a net score of 72.
The associated ball competition included ball going to the previous week's winner Tony Barnet 73, Bruce Fraser and Mike Howard 74, and then daylight to Jim Dunn, Roy Crichton and Joost Werz with net scores of 80. The nearest-to-the-pins were won by Roy Crichton at the 4th-13th holes and Joost Werz at the 6th-15th holes.
The putting competition was won by Dave Hellers a welcome visitor to the club and to veteran's golf.
On Tuesday, February 23, Gloucester's veterans are playing a Four Ball Better Ball with an individual Stableford in conjunction, an event sponsored by Bob Kirkup and Mark Howard.
The first veterans' day in March, (Tuesday the 2nd), is a Two Person Ambrose sponsored by Elaine and Bill Murray.
