The quality of the golf was indeed no match for the high quality of the course; nor did the weather provide any real excuse although recent rain had rendered the ground a tad soft in places providing a common excuse for some poor scores. No one was too sympathetic!
The winner was Bill Murray with 35 Stableford points a count back ahead of Peter Wildblood also on 35 and a shot ahead of Dave Salmon on 34. There was a healthy gap in scoring to the day's ball winners, Mark Stone and Glyn Rees on 32 points, Denver Webb alone on 31, Gai Falla and Elaine Murray heading our women golfers with 30 points apiece followed by Dianne Bardwell and Ian Maggs scoring 29 points. Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Peter Wildblood at the 4th and 15th holes and Elaine Murray and Denver Webb at the 6th and 15th holes.
On Tuesday May 18, the veterans are playing an Individual Stoke and Putting competition and the following week there is the Mixed Classic Four Ball on Sunday May 23 followed by the Gloucester Veterans' Week of Golf with Individual Stableford rounds Monday May 24 and Tuesday May 25, a Four Ball Better Ball Thursday May 27 and a third Individual Stableford Friday May 28.
